Well… we’re officially just big now.
According to recent data, Austin crossed the 1 million resident mark in 2025, landing at about 1,002,632 people and becoming the 12th largest city in the U.S. [fox7austin.com]
Let that sink in: we now have more people than some states have cows. (Okay, maybe not Texas cows… but still.)
🤠 So… Why Is Everyone Moving Here?
Short answer: tacos, tech jobs, and sunshine.
Long answer:

People moving in from other states and other parts of Texas

Basically, Austin is still that cool kid everyone wants to sit next to at lunch.

Builders are hustling—but demand is still winning the race

Big Business Keeps Moving to Austin (And No, It’s Not Slowing Down 🤠)
Austin is still the place companies are circling on the map—and 2026 is proving it. From tech startups to global giants, businesses keep planting roots here, bringing jobs, innovation, and yes… more traffic.
Here’s the latest:
A German AI company, Q.ant, just picked Austin for its U.S. headquarters, adding to our growing “Silicon Hills” reputation.

Big investments are also rolling in. Samsung’s massive $17B chip plant in nearby Taylor is still on track, fueling jobs and growth across Central Texas.

ATX Festival is the first festival devoted to Television's history and future. It functions like a traditional film festival with premieres of new series, current hits and cult favorites. Persian food close by!
Chef Amir Hajimaleki’s Persian restaurant Roya has been in progress since 2018, and in February it finally opened in its full glory. Located on top of one of Hajimaleki’s other restaurants, District Kitchen + Cocktails, the rich blue space sets a sumptuous tone with intricate tilework, art, and unique chandeliers. Drawing from Hajimaleki’s upbringing in Iran, the restaurant serves dishes like mahiche gheymeh (saffron tomato braised lamb shank), wagyu kebabs with fenugreek seasoning and tarragon chimichurri, and a variety of maze spreads and bites, plus a full cocktail menu. Decision-haters can be guided with sofreh, the chef’s tasting menu based in Persian hospitality.
Takeaway: Get weird food in Austin that may suprise your pallete.

Buc-ee’s Is Booming in Texas: Expansion, Impact, and What’s Next
New Locations Coming to Central Texas
One of the biggest recent developments is Buc-ee’s continued expansion in its home state. Two new Texas locations—in San Marcos and Boerne—are currently under construction and expected to open around 2026. These stores are designed to be huge travel centers, with the San Marcos location reaching approximately 74,000 square feet and featuring over 100 fuel pumps. The San Marcos store, located along the busy I-35 corridor, is especially significant because it will attract travelers between Austin and San Antonio. It is projected to create around 200 jobs, providing a boost to the local economy and increasing tourism in the area. [fox4news.com]
